Timetables

I don't know what to say. I am still very much confused by my timetable. I'm sat in the library because I have to waste time due to misreading it. The online one says one thing and the physical one in Waverley says another. Am I in at 10:00 today or not? Muchos confusion.

Image Meaning & Composition

Following is an example of one of my possesions that has a value in both 'fine' and 'applied' design. (Pending Photograph)

Subject: Numark HF125 Headphones

Functionality:
“having or serving a utilitarian purpose; capable of serving the purpose for which it was designed: functional architecture; a chair that is functional as well as decorative.”

It has to be said, this item has only one basic function when looked upon from this simple perspective and that is to create sound for the user to enjoy on an individual, private basis. With emphasis on the individual, this item can transport the listener to whatever world they happen to be passing through the tiny speakers. Leaving the rest of the world to its own devices. A critical tool in the world of a DJ, they serve as the cue to the next record that is crucial to proper mixing.

Aesthetic Beauty:
“pertaining to a sense of the beautiful or to the science of aesthetics.”

These headphones have been specifically designed to fit in with the range of Numark products currently on the market. The silver with black trim has become the standard for the manufacturer which allows the user to invest in a full series of products that fit well together. All products have heavily applied ergonomic values, creating a comfortable interface with the user.

Communication:
“what it does to expand your knowledge of yourself, your environment, world past, future.”

When compared to similar products from say 20 years ago, it is easy to see how far items like the HF125 have come. The world of electronics has grown immensely since the days of paper speaker cones and valve amps. (not to disrespect the valve amp, I still run one today). As a DJ, the headphones are there with you at the forefront of your talent and technique, walking every step of your progression. The more you understand the function of the headphones, the better you will become at using them. Therefore, this will be transfered through to your mixing.

Decorative/Entertainment Value
“the act of entertaining; agreeable occupation for the mind; diversion; amusement: Solving the daily crossword puzzle is an entertainment for many.”

They are an integral part of the DJ's setup so go hand in hand with the entertainment value that mixing provides. Without them, mixing is impossible. As far as an occupation for the mind, sometimes all you do is concentrate on the output of the headphones therefore fully occupying your mind with the function of said piece.

Reinforced

Ambush returns yet again to take you back to the next level. 26|10|06. FREE. The Social, Nottingham. Don't miss out.

Check out the Ambush HQ for more info

Movement

Work is well and truly underway on our narratives project. I don't want to give too much away at this point. All will be revealed with our presentation. We decided it would be best to let just one member of the group come up with the idea whilst the rest of us worked within the restrictions that the idea created. Sometimes you need to drastically narrow down your options before you can really get an idea rolling! We each have our own roles that suit our current skills and that makes for smooth workings. Time, most definately is a factor.

Final

Finally, we've managed to get our ideas together. I think there has been alot of confusion about what we are actually expected to do for this deadline. My mate Tom says he's already done a Powerpoint presentation for this project, its quite funny really. Submitting through the forum shortly. Top.

Settled In

Well I think everything's coming together now. Had a little group issue at the start of Narrative Project but we're up and running. It helps when the people in your group are actually still on the course. Now we're down to three but I like it that way. More control over the task. I've got some reasonable ideas but I'm a bit rusty. Need to blow some cobwebs out of the old brain. Plus film/video is a pretty new thing to me, I'm much more at home with 2D graphics and music. Here's to new media.

We're Back In Business. Ambush Returns.

After almost a year on the low, Nottingham's (soon to be) legendary beatfest returns. After a not so pretty start at Westside Bar, we've secured The Social as our new City HQ. Kicking off this coming Thursday (12|10|06) with some phenomenal local scensters by the name of Vinyl [abort]. Words simply cannot justify what these guys have put together. You'll just have to see for yourselves. Oh, and that's for FREE by the way. 23 Pelham Street, Nottingham. Be there.

Week 12. The Beginning.

Gone are the days of tax and labour. Gwaan! I'm officially a student again.

Team buliding went well, or at least for those of us who stuck around. Made some allies me thinks. Some interesting people, lecturers included which is a bonus. Exactly what I wanted to see.
Nuff said.
